Trying Not to Complain

26 March 2021

Hour after hour, day after day,  heavy rain dropped upon us. At first, we delighted in this extraordinary event. We searched for our long lost umbrellas. We remembered how to drive in the wet conditions. We took pleasure in the puddles and the grass that suddenly turned a brilliant shade of green. We inhaled the earthy smell of the bush and soaked in the sight of the waterfalls gushing down over the rocks along both sides of the road that leads into and out of our village.

Then the roads began to flood. Pot-hole traps opened up under the water. And then, one day, the power disappeared. A old tall tree lost its hold on the waterloggged soil, and crashed to the ground, taking down the powerlines and blocking access to our road.

But the tree incident and the flooded and pot-holed roads were minor inconveniences. We were relatively safe and dry on top of our hill. Our homes weren’t flooded, so we really had no reason to complain about the rain.

I recorded this week’s podcast as the rain was falling. In episode 184: Trying Not to Complain, I’m telling a few stories about the weather and Elvis:

  • Wondering Weather I Should Iron
  • The Elvis Connection
  • Me? I’m Elvis’ Wife
  • Why I’m Wearing Stiff Undies

And I’m chatting about a few things along the way such as lifting gloomy moods, blogging, and unladylike humour.

I hope you’ll listen!

Our dogs expected us to take them for walks even though the rain was falling heavily. I got very soggy feet as I waded through the puddles on the main fire trail!
