Not so long ago, I posted the following words, about the current pandemic and control, in the Stories of an Unschooling Family community:
One of the things that I’m finding hard to deal with at the moment is the lack of control I have over my life. Someone else is making decisions that affect me. I can’t do anything about that. I know that these are extraordinary times. Decisions are made with safety in mind. (Though a few of the decisions don’t make much sense to me!) We have to think of the good of the community. But still, some days it’s very hard. I feel frustrated and helpless.
Do kids also feel helpless and frustrated when adults control their lives and make decisions for them? We might tell them that we know best, that they’re not capable of making decisions, that they’re too young to know what’s good for them. But is that always true? Do we sometimes just not want to let go? Perhaps it seems easier to control our children. But is it?
I’d love to hear how you’re feeling at the moment. And do you think the current crisis gives us an insight into how children might feel if they’re not given enough control over their own lives?
In this week’s podcast, I’m also talking about our pandemic lives, control, and kids. This week’s podcast? Yes, I finally sat down in front of the mic and made a new episode!
Here are a few more things that I’m speaking about in episode 172:
- What I’ve been doing recently.
- Our new book club and how we’re going to discuss my book, Radical Unschool Love.
- My new blog, Where the Carol Birds Sing.
I’m sharing a few stories from my new blog:
- Battle
- Daylight Saving
- Look
And I’m sharing an unconditional love story from my book, Radical Unschool Love: Perfectly Them.
